Who cares?

A while ago a teacher of mine was teaching the class some technology history. When we reached the slides concerning the present day in his PowerPoint, he pointed out that they referred to the "Information Age." However, he prefers to call this day and age the "Who Cares? Age."

Honestly, though. Who cares? Why do people blog, Tweet, and update their Facebook profiles constantly? All of these are useless unless they are used to benefit or enrich other people. Let's take a look at them...

BLOGS.
I have come across too many blogs that are filled with inside jokes that no one on the internet will even understand and complaints about their boyfriend/girlfriend/life. Of all the blogs that I have read, including my own, only a select few seem worthy of sucking up space on the internet. Admittedly, mine isn't a very good one, but I hope it isn't annoying, at least. The only ones that seems to be of note seem to either talk about food, talk about design, or make me laugh. All the others are just diaries...seriously, folks, you have no privacy on the internet. Chew on that.

TWITTER.
I'm not very familiar with Twitter, but I really never got the hype. Isn't it the same thing as Facebook status updates, except for the fact that you can change your settings so that the WHOLE WORLD is stalking your every move? I have to say that, for once, Miley Cyrus got something right. She was on the David Letterman show and mentioned something about Tweets and how they sometimes read, "i lost my lucky bracelet:(" and then five minutes later, "yay! found my lucky bracelet!" Who cares????

FACEBOOK.
Also known as: the online social network most abused by the demographic of middle schoolers and high school freshmen. What is this with this "Like" business? Why is it necessary to "Like" "pages"? Why do you clog up cyberspace with fifty pictures of yourself in the same pose in the bathroom mirror? Why do your status updates read "I'm lonely"? Why don't you do something meaningful with your life instead of rotting in front of a screen and complaining about why no one likes you? Again, you have no privacy on the internet. It's time to log off our Facebook profiles for the first time in a day...all together, now...

So there's my rant. And now I will go write a post about beaches. That may sound a bit hypocritical, but trust me. It won't be about me tanning on the beach and eating popsicles with my "bff's for lyfe lols!", so you don't have to care. :)

  1. I don't really have a problem with blogs being diaries of sorts, because I kind of do that myself. My blog is kind of this weird mix of diary and actual thoughts about stuff and then just random stupidity.

Twitter, I never got either. o__o

And Facebook, I half-agree with you. It's fine on its own, but some people need to haul their butts off Facebook and do something besides the twenty angled bathroom-mirror pics every day, the passive-aggressive statuses, the fifty "likes" every day, and all that. I don't mind people liking stuff and photo-ing and all in moderation. That's the key, moderation.

  2. Thanks for stopping by! I agree - blogs are the least annoying of the three, and I think part of that is that people actually try to be grammatically correct on them! Where is your blog? I would be glad to follow it.

  3. Haha, I think so, too! Mine is a diary of sorts, though... though it has some plain stupid stuff on there, too. Like, embarrassingly un-CW-like stuff. Oh, this is CW by the way. I think my username says that.. hopefully, at least. Yes, I'm lame enough to just go with my initials, but this IS the internet after all. Oooh, scary. (actually, yes it is. *huddles into a ball* but moving on) Hopefully you know who I am and don't think I'm some creepy stalker 'cause I did mention to you yesterday at lunch that I saw your blog so I'm hoping you know who I am XD

I'll follow you! XD GoogleReader FTW~!
